He was proclaimed on August 11, as the 12th winning senator in the election. Aquilino Pimentel III was sworn in at Mati, Davao Oriental on August 12, and assumed office on August 15,
It was a difficult route for him going there since he lost four years of his term after being edged out by Juan Miguel &#;Migs&#; Zubiri in the mid-term elections.
Zubiri, who ran under the administration ticket, won the post by a slim margin of around 21, votes over Pimentel, who ran under the position.
