Biography of Van Johnson
Van Johnson was an American television and film actor, as well as a talented dancer. He was one of the leading actors of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during World War II and was considered an idol of Hollywood's "Golden Age" for a long time.
Early Life
Van Johnson was born on August 25, 1916, in Newport, Rhode Island. He was the only child of housewife Loretta and plumber and real estate agent Charles Johnson. His father was an immigrant from Sweden, while his mother was from Pennsylvania. Johnson's mother suffered from alcohol addiction and left the family when he was very young. His father took on the responsibility of raising him.
